History of the South African Flag

As South Africa's Freedom Day is coming up we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to showcase the history of the South African flag. 

The South African flag has a complex history that reflects the country's turbulent past. The current South African flag was adopted on April 27, 1994, following the end of apartheid and the country's first democratic elections where Nelson Mandela became the country's first black president.

Commonwealth Day 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the Commonwealth Charter, which was signed by Queen Elizabeth II on 11th March 2013. It is a well-established holiday celebrated by an estimated 2 billion people worldwide. It was originally known as ‘Empire Day,’ established in 1902 to honour Queen Victoria and later addressed reform in 1958 to become Commonwealth Day; observing the unity of nations and its ideals on being ‘free and equal’.
